Provided that there are no financial cutbacks and whatnot, when NASA sends humans back the moon in the 2020s under Project Constellation, will the conspiracy theorists (who believe that NASA faked the Apollo moon landings) see this as another hoax, or will they treat it like we've landed on the moon for the first time?|||Conspiracy theorist have a psychological condition that completely negates any attempt to counter their beliefs. If you think that any evidence that contradicts your view is "part of the conspiracy", then you will never, ever listen to reason.
Such people are better off talking to psychiatrists than engaging in scientific debate.
Even if the new moon missions went to the old Apollo sites and sent back live footage, there are plenty of cretinous simpletons out there who will cry "fake". It's frightening to think that out of 6 billion or so people on this planet, a large portion are mindless buffoons.|||I would seriously doubt if many of them are capable of understanding the concepts of earth as a round object, moon as a solid body, space and the nuances of travel thereabouts. Rather than attempting to understand, as that would require effort, they prefer to ridicule the concept of space travel, thereby exposing simultaneously both their limitations and lack of flexibility to do anything about their plight.
It's all rather sad actually, but variability within the human species will ensure that inevitably there will be such individuals, so the rational majority needs to find a way to deal with their problems.
Ultimately conspiracy theorists are people too, and their issues need to be carefully worked through to the benefit of all.
Cheers!|||Fake!|||NASA recently published photographs of the Apollo landing sites, taken by the Lunar Reconnissance Orbiter. These show the lunar module descent stages on the moon and a trail of disturbance in the dust caused by the Apollo 14 crew...
... but the new conspiracy theories are already jumping up around this evidence. (Hoax believers... the shadow nonsense is getting really old now, just in case you happen to be reading)
It will, sadly, be exactly the same with Project Constellation. These people don't want to believe. They're also stuck in that they've been so triumphant about their discovery - they know the truth! They're the smart ones! They know everything! We're all too stupid or naive to see the truth! Yet they believe every word fed to them by a crack conspiracy theorist. It's crazy.
You can't convince these people because they don't want to be convinced. So they will say Project Constellation is a "response" to the hoax theories, claiming NASA now have to "prove it" because they know they were "caught out" - so they're faking it, and better this time. No hoax believer will ever admit NASA did it in 1968, or in the 21st century.
It's kind of sad, really.|||I can't decide whether or not I could possibly care less about what they think.|||They'll wait forty years after the fact and say that the Constellation program was faked too.|||They will probably accept this one as they will not have the required brain cells to refute it under their nose. To challenge it up front will required addressing real science real time and they have already demonstrated the ability with past science. Thing is with the past science, many of the people working on it probably don't care. It will be a different kettle of fish this time around and I think only the die hard loons will take it on.|||What exactly do mean by "conspiracy theorists"?|||I wrote one of those conspiracy freaks, and he admits we have the technology now, but didn't back in the 60's.
